Hi, I'm Andrew, the organiser of this Honda GL500/650 SilverWing Internet Contact Group.

I live in Buxton, Derbyshire, England, which is on the edge of the Peak District National Park. This location is ideal for exploring and riding on, what I believe, are some of the finest motorcycle roads in the UK.

Unfortunately ill-health now prevents me from riding motorcycles but I am leaving this site running to support all the GL500/650 riders out their who still cherish their bikes. It also means that I will not be taking any further technical enquiries from members. Please use the forum to ask your questions.

I used to ride a 1982 US spec GL500 SilverWing Interstate (see photo), which was imported from Arizona into the UK in 1994 by Performance Motorcycle Salvage, Darwen, Lancs. With 32,000 miles on it had never run in the rain, and I still had to run it in for speeds above 60 mph!

My holiday journeys include riding over 2000 miles to the Pyrenees in September 1994, and 1500 miles around Scotland in '95 and Devon in '96. For these journeys I attached a Consett 14 cu.ft. motorcycle trailer. This gave me secure luggage and less disturbance to the handling than fitting larger panniers, top box etc. - besides I wanted to keep those good-looking SilverWing proportions intact! The only other addition was the BMW K-series tank bag system. I had the base plate modified by a local saddler to fit the Silverwing tank, and this has proved to be extremely useful.
